The Campaign for Love & Forgiveness
2006 - 2007 Celebration Event
WTVI culminated year one of its Campaign for Love & Forgiveness by hosting a celebratory event at the station to recognize campaign Ambassadors. Throughout the campaign these Ambassadors participated in a series of workshops where they discussed the role of self-love and what inhibits people from being able to give and receive love.
During the celebratory event, campaign participants took part in a wrap-up activity, in which they addressed community needs and created their ideal “Community of Love”. These ambassadors also received their Red Bench of Love pin. The campaign is a national multi-year community-engagement initiative funded by The Fetzer Institute.
The campaign explores the transforming power of love and forgiveness, both in our personal lives and in our communities. The goals of this national campaign are to:
- Initiate community conversations on the role and meaning of love and forgiveness
- Help individuals and communities discover the transformative power that love and forgiveness can bring to various issues
- Support and enhance outreach in conjunction with films that explore themes of love and forgiveness
WTVI's Initiative
WTVI is one of only six PBS stations to have been awarded community-engagement grants. The station is partnering with several organizations in developing activities to stimulate dialogue between students and seniors and to address racial issues, ultimately contributing to inter-racial trust.
Our partners are: The Community Building Initiative, the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, Stratford Richardson YMCA Youth Council, the Women Inter-Cultural Exchange and the WTVI Community Engagement Committee.
