The Campaign for Love & Forgiveness
2006 - 2007 Kickoff
Community residents, campaign partners, elected officials and others joined WTVI during its kick-off of The Campaign for Love & Forgiveness. The ceremony took place at the West Boulevard branch of the public library. Those in attendance were given an overview of the project that is designed to explore the transforming power of love and forgiveness in our personal lives and in our communities. The three-year campaign is funded by The Fetzer Institute.
The highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling and dedication of The Red Bench of Love, the campaign symbol. The bench, commissioned by local artist Edwin Gill, will serve as a gathering spot for persons to speak honestly and openly about their experiences with love and forgiveness and to listen and respond to each other with encouragement and compassion. WTVI will arrange to videotape those Red Bench conversations to be aired on the station. Persons interested can contact Beverly Dorn-Steele at bds@wtvi.org
or at 704-371-8840.

The program was capped off with the reading of a proclamation designating January 10 as Love & Forgiveness Day in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. Several speakers stated that having and then sharing the power of love and forgiveness can go a long way toward beginning the healing process in our personal lives, our professional lives and in our communities at large.

The public is invited to take an active role in the campaign by sharing their stories of love during the community conversations. Call 704-371-8840 if you're interested in attending a session. If you can't attend, then consider participation in a letter writing campaign. Share your thoughts on the role of love, trust and compassion and we'll select ones to post on our site.
