Emmy Awards

Former WTVI Emmy award-winning producer/director Stuart Grasberg, who passed away in July, will be inducted posthumously into the Silver Circle of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (the Nashville/Midsouth Chapter) during a January ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee. The Silver Circle honors individuals who have contributed a quarter-century to broadcasting. Grasberg, who joined WTVI in 1985, garnered several awards during his career, including Emmys for "Chihuly in Charlotte" and "Out of the Ashes: The Story of McColl Center for Visual Art".

WTVI also received nominations, which were announced November 17, in the following categories:

  • Documentary/Historical - How I Survived WW Two - Produced by Eric Davis, Dan Morrill, Johann Lohrmann and Chris Hudson. A story of survival and sacrifice as World War Two veterans describe their experiences in war including how they were raised, how they learned to deal with death and the ordinary events of life within the context of war and what happened when they came home.

  • Lighting - Carolina Business Review; Randy Fulp, director of photography - A weekly business show featuring in-depth analysis of the week's business highlights through conversations with CEOs and business, political and academic leaders in North and South Carolina.

  • Writer/Program - Strength from Selma; Steve Crump, WTVI - The documentary covers the 30th anniversary of the Civil Rights march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, known as "Bloody Sunday".

  • Documentary/Topical - Brown in Black and White; Steve Crump, WTVI - The documentary focuses on the days of segregated schools during the 1950's in Gastonia, North Carolina and explores race relations in that city.

Nearly 700 entries were judged resulting in 267 nominations. Individuals from 54 stations and companies are being recognized in 59 categories. The Midsouth Region encompasses North Carolina (except Asheville), Tennessee and the television market of Huntsville, Alabama.
