Forty years ago, Dr. Bob Hart created a nature preserve on his Catawba County land. A friend suggested that an old log cabin down the road would look nice on the lake, and would also save a piece of history. This log cabin was the first of over 90 structures Dr. Hart, along with his friends and family, moved to Hart Square. Every October the Hart family opens the Square to the public with hundreds of historical interpreters practicing 19th century crafts. This episode of the Trail of History will look at the development of Hart Square and its importance in preserving earlier ways of life in the North Carolina Piedmont.
