The Great Migration: A People on the Move Project

PBS Charlotte partnered with middle school students at Druid Hills Academy for an educational program centered around the PBS documentary The Great Migration: A People on the Move. This initiative invited students to explore the historical significance and lasting impact of the Great Migration, with a focus on themes such as politics, culture, and legacy.

As part of the program, students viewed the documentary and participated in guided discussions to deepen their understanding of the migration’s influence on American society. They were then encouraged to select a topic from the film that resonated with them personally and creatively express their insights through a culminating project. These student-led projects reflected a range of formats and perspectives, showcasing their engagement, critical thinking, and connection to this pivotal moment in history.

This program aimed to inspire thoughtful exploration of African American history while empowering students to draw connections between the past and their own communities today.
