Support PBS Charlotte Through Your IRA
If you’re 70½ or older, you can support PBS Charlotte and potentially reduce your taxes through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).
A QCD allows you to donate directly from your IRA to PBS Charlotte. Benefits include:
- Reduce your taxable income
- Lower your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
- Support public media that inspires, informs, and educates our community
What is a QCD?
A QCD lets you donate up to $105,000 per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity. The donation is excluded from taxable income, even if you don’t itemize deductions.
Eligibility:
- Age 70½ or older
- Donation from a traditional IRA
- Cannot claim a charitable deduction for the gift
- Cannot receive goods or services in return
Benefits:
- Tax-free – reduces taxable income and Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)
- Satisfies RMDs – counts toward your required distribution
- Supports causes you care about
What is an RMD?
A Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) is the minimum amount you must withdraw annually from retirement accounts starting at age 73. A QCD can satisfy your RMD without increasing taxable income.
